Firm Partner Matt Roberts was interviewed for a BottomLineInc Article

Firm partner, Matthew L. Roberts was interviewed for a BottomLineInc. article published on April 16, 2025 titled, "Tax Deductions for Scam Victims."   The article addresses the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 discontinuing the deduction for personal theft losses.  A recently issued IRS memorandum says that losses from fraudulent transactions entered into with a profit motive are deductible. The article goes on to give examples of scam losses that may qualify for a deduction as well as examples of scam losses that do not qualify.  Read the article here.

If you have questions about a theft loss deduction or any other civil or criminal tax matter, please contact Mr. Roberts at 214.749.2434 or at mroberts@meadowscollier.com.
