Ms. Swartz’s practice focuses on federal and international tax planning for mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and cross-border transactions, as well as defending clients in federal tax litigation and other tax controversies. She has over a decade of experience advising corporations, investment funds, and financial institutions on the tax aspects of domestic and international business arrangements.
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Swartz worked on tax matters both in the private sector as a tax attorney at a major international law firm and in the public sector as a Trial Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice, Tax Division. In her role with the U.S. Department of Justice, she handled significant civil tax controversies and worked closely with the Internal Revenue Service, gaining substantial insight into government enforcement priorities and litigation strategy. This unique perspective allows her to provide well-rounded tax advice that is both intelligible and actionable.
Drawing on both her tax and litigation background, Ms. Swartz also enjoys serving as a mediator. She approaches mediation with careful preparation, strong command of the technical tax issues, and a practical understanding of how disputes are evaluated in court. Ms. Swartz focuses on providing a structured, thoughtful process that helps parties assess risk, clarify complex tax questions, and work toward efficient, durable resolutions.
Ms. Swartz earned her LL.M. in Taxation from NYU and her J.D. from Georgetown. She combines deep technical tax knowledge with a practical, business-oriented approach to helping clients achieve tax-efficient outcomes in complex transactions.
Ms. Swartz was admitted to practice in Texas in 2013 and New York in 2008.
