Mr. O'Brien is an accomplished attorney assisting clients in all phases of civil and criminal tax controversy disputes. His extensive experience ranges from examinations and appeals before the IRS to tax controversy litigation before the U.S. Tax Court as well as the U.S. District Courts and Bankruptcy Courts.
His comprehensive knowledge extends from his tenure as both a senior attorney with the IRS Office of Chief Counsel and as a trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice, Tax Division. During his time with the government, Mr. O’Brien advised IRS revenue agents on complex corporate, partnership, and international tax matters during the audits of multinational businesses and high net-worth individuals. Mr. O’Brien also assisted in writing audit technique guides for the oil and gas industry and participated in a large nationwide special trial team litigating high-dollar cases before the U.S. Tax Court.
Mr. O’Brien was admitted to practice in California in April 2019 and is currently seeking admission in Texas.
